jon j.p. warner, m.d.
Jon J.P. Warner, M.D. is currently Chief of the Harvard Shoulder Service where is director of the Harvard Combined Shoulder Fellowship. He came to Boston in April of 1998 from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he served as Chief of the Shoulder Service for 8 years. He is also Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and the Current President of the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society (www.neses.com). He has authored over 100 peer review publications, more than 200 book chapters and 5 textbooks in shoulder surgery. His clinical and basic research has been recognized by more than 30 regional, national and international awards. These have included the Kappa Delta Award of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Sureons (Best Research in Orthopaedics), The O’Donoghue Award of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (Best Research in Sports Medicine), The Neer Award of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (Best Research in Shoulder Problems), The John Joyce Award of the International Arthroscopy Association, The O’Connor Award of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (Best Research in Arthroscopy), and the Award for Best Paper of the Orthopaedic Trauma Society. In 1994 he was selected as one of the two traveling fellows in the inaugural year of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Exchange Fellowship representing this society to The European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He has been a Visiting Professor and Lecturer on 300 occasions at meetings and Universities throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States.
He is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of numerous specialty societies including the Orthopaedic Research Society, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
His Clinical interests include all aspects of problems related to the shoulder, but with a special interest in management of complex problems and failed treatments.

larry higgins, m.d.
Dr. Laurence D. Higgins is Chief of the BWH Shoulder Service and Co-Chief of the Harvard Shoulder Service with Dr. JP Warner. His career began at Duke University where he was an Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedics. While at Duke, he served as the Orthopaedic Team Physician for Duke University, caring for all student athletes and being recognized for his dedication to the Men’s Basketball and Lacrosse teams from 1998-2005. In addition, he served as the Orthopaedic Team Physician for North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and was acknowledged for his commitment having the training room at NCCU named in his honor.
He completed his residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery, a division of the Cornell University Medical School While there, he received the Jean McDaniel award, presented to the most outstanding resident in the graduating class. He was a Fellow in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the Center for Sports Medicine, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, serving as Assistant Team Physician for the University of Pittsburgh Athletic Department.
His clinical practice specializes in disorders of the shoulder, knee, and elbow as well as all sports-related injuries. He employs advanced open and arthroscopic surgical techniques to restore damaged joints, ligaments, and bones. His complex and revision surgeries include treatment of rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability, complex shoulder fractures, shoulder replacement and knee instability (in particular ACL, PCL and complex ligamentous injuries). He is additionally trained in cartilage and meniscal repair.
He is active in both clinical research and the education of residents and fellows and co-chairs the Harvard International Shoulder Fellowship Program. He has published over 60 peer reviewed, scientific papers. He is very active in the national orthopaedic community where he is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbows Surgeons, The American Orthopaedic Association, The Eastern Orthopaedic Association, and the International Cartilage Repair Society and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Higgins maintains an extremely busy clinical and surgical practice at two facilities while remaining very committed academically in local, nationally and international courses and societies.
